Italy Under-21 boss Devis Mangia has admitted that he hopes to go to the European Championship next year with his best team.

A number of young players, including Stephan El Shaarawy and Mattia De Sciglio, have been called into the senior squad.

But the 38-year-old has claimed that he wants to be able to pick from the best when they travel to Israel in 2013.

“I hope I can go to Israel with the best players available,” he told Radio Sportiva. “If I can choose between them all I'll be very happy.

“It's going to be a very competitive tournament.”

He then went on to comment on how he would deploy those squad members he considers to be the best.

“El Shaarawy is best expressed starting from the left – it's the position that shows his best qualities.

“The three goalkeepers Mattia Perin, Francesco Bardi and Simeone Colombi are all playing well with great continuity.

“The defender who is showing the most promise at the moment is De Sciglio and Luca Caldirola at Cesena is also playing a lot of first team football.”
