Zeman: 'Roma were always competitive'

Zdenek Zeman is not remotely surprised by Roma’s two consecutive victories and has advice for the side ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Siena.

“The team has been trying to play a certain type of football from the start of the season and I have always been satisfied with the performances,” insisted the Coach in his Press conference.

“Now we are making fewer mistakes in defence and do not always give our opponents the opportunity to score.”

Erik Lamela is still injured and Daniele De Rossi sits out the final game in his three-match ban, while Pablo Daniel Osvaldo is included despite an ankle problem.

“Michael Bradley has been doing very well in midfield, but Panagiotis Tachtsidis is more of a ‘director’ of the midfield than he is.

“Osvaldo has been carrying a few fitness problems for two weeks, but has also played good games despite this problem.”

On Sunday they visit Siena, who have notched up eight points from the last four rounds and can count on Roma-supporting Coach Serse Cosmi.

“Siena haven’t conceded in four games, whereas we score a lot of goals and hope to do so again tomorrow,” continued Zeman.

“They play with a centre-forward and two support strikers, who tend to play pretty narrow to let their wing-backs through. We have to therefore tighten the defence more than usual.

“I think this team has been competitive from the start, though it’s normal that most of the players had never worked this way before, so took some time to adjust.”

Zeman was also asked about Osvaldo’s shock comments that he would not tell the authorities if a teammate tried to fix a match, instead keeping it in the locker room by “beating him up.”

“Osvaldo is wrong, as anyone who knows and doesn’t tell the authorities will get banned.”
