Italy boss Cesare Prandelli has admitted that his squad choices for the Confederations Cup will be affected by the needs of the Italian Under-21 side.
The Azzurri will take part in next year’s World Cup dress rehearsal after reaching the Final of Euro 2012 in June.
Prandelli has since given youth a chance, but Azzurrini boss Devis Mangia will seemingly influence the former Fiorentina boss’ selection process in six months’ time.
“We have interesting young players,” the tactician stated ahead of Saturday’s draw.
“We will have to decide whom to take with us to the Confederations Cup, given that the Under-21 European Championships are also taking place next summer.
“The Confederations Cup will be an important opportunity for some youngsters to gain experience and present themselves on the international stage.
“The important thing is that they prove to be ready. We’ll be playing some of the strongest sides on the planet and we want to arrive at that competition in the right frame of mind.”
It is already certain that Italy will take on hosts Brazil in the Confederations Cup. While Spain and Uruguay will be paired together in the other group.
