Genoa have admitted they are keen on Francelino Matuzalem, but denied claims that Lazio could get Alexander Merkel in exchange.
“It’s true,” Genoa chief Enrico Preziosi commented to Citta Celeste. “Matuzalem is a player who is of interest to us.
“However, we are not in talks with Lazio regarding a swap deal.
“Merkel, at this moment in time, is a player who is not available for transfer. We’ll have to see whether that changes in the future.”
Matuzalem is looking for a new club after the Brazilian midfielder was frozen out of the first team squad in the capital.
Merkel, meanwhile, was signed outright by the Marassi outfit in the summer after a spell with Italian giants Milan.
The 20-year-old, handed the Genoa No 10 shirt, has scored one goal in five League appearances for the Grifoni this term.
