Genoa chief Enrico Preziosi has told boss Gigi Del Neri that his job is safe despite a fifth consecutive loss.
Del Neri was appointed after the 4-2 home defeat to Roma, but he has failed to pick up a point in any of his five games in charge.
The 3-1 derby loss to city rivals Sampdoria on Sunday then ensured that they ended the weekend at the bottom of Serie A.
“The Coach will stay for the rest of this season and next,” the President noted. “He’ll remain for as long as I am here.
“I can guarantee that because Del Neri is an important Coach and I will give him all of the time that he needs.”
Preziosi also rejected speculation that he’s looking to immediately rid himself of the Marassi outfit after a tough last 18 months.
“It is my intention to get Genoa out of this situation that they don’t belong in,” the toy tycoon stated. “Then, at the end of the season, I hope someone wants to buy Genoa.
“Otherwise I’ll be staying here. I won’t abandon ship.”
Genoa’s next three games are against Atalanta, Chievo and Pescara.
