Marchetti awaits Juve test

Federico Marchetti is looking forward to facing Juventus today and hopes he “can convince” Cesare Prandelli too.

The Lazio goalkeeper is expecting a busy evening in Turin when it kicks off at 17.00 GMT.

“We must do well to contain Juve and propose our usual style of play. Edy Reja achieved great results, but Vladimir Petkovic has brought enthusiasm, modern football and always tells us to take it day by day.

“Gigi Buffon is among the best goalkeepers in the world,” he told Tuttosport. “I know he spoke highly of me, but he also said a great thing which is that since he was a young man he has only ever tried to be Buffon.

“Idols and inspirations are only in childhood. I am 29 now and know what I have to do to improve. I am Marchetti and will focus only on being Marchetti.”

Despite impressive performances, Marchetti has struggled to get back into the running for the Italy side.

“I went from first choice at the World Cup to being dropped completely. Prandelli has his ideas, but I won’t get downhearted. Hopefully I can convince him.”
