Former Roma midfielder Damiano Tommasi believes that Daniele De Rossi will stay at the club, despite rumours of a move to Manchester City.

The Giallorossi vice-captain has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League club after the Lupi General Manager Franco Baldini revealed last week that they were willing to listen to offers for the 29-year-old.

But the head of the Italian Footballers' Association (AIC) is of the opinion that the Italy international will see out his career in the capital, even after his sending off in Sunday's Rome derby.

“I still see De Rossi as a Roma player,” he told reporters. “Even if he did lose control at the weekend.

He also commented on the match at the Stadio Olimpico, which saw Lazio overcome Zdenek Zeman's side 3-2.

“It was a really exciting game,” he said. “It was just a shame about the red cards.

“I think there would have been more of a show in the second half if it was 11 vs 11, but Lazio, in my opinion, have a more balanced side.”
