Vladimir Petkovic reveals what it felt like to win his debut Derby della Capitale. “We proved all of our quality.”

Lazio beat arch rivals Roma 3-2 under driving rain at the Stadio Olimpico after Daniele De Rossi saw red in the first half. It was later confirmed that De Rossi went into the Lazio locker room to apologise after the game.

“At the final whistle it was a wonderful feeling,” smiled Petkovic on Sky Sport Italia.

“We did well to work as a team and were able to interpret the match, even if it meant playing long balls.

“In terms of mentality and effort, we proved all of our quality. We paid for some debatable incidents, such as their goal and Stefano Mauri’s red card which I thought was unfair, but we did well to get a positive result anyway.”

This confirms Zdenek Zeman’s poor record in the derby, but Petkovic remained respectful.

“Without doubt Zeman was and is a legend. The result of one game cannot change my opinion on him.

“On paper this match was dangerous, especially as we were coming off a 4-0 defeat to Catania and needed the derby to get back on track.”
