The 34-year-old's backpass to Morgan De Sanctis was cut out by Gianluca Sansone, as the substitute equalised in the last minute to give Il Toro a share of the points.

And the former Reggina man has told of his disappointment at throwing away his team's win.

“I am extremely disappointed,” he Radio Marte. “I have apologised to my teammates and I want to apologise to the fans for my mistake.

“It was a difficult game for us, and unfortunately my mistake was decisive.

“All my teammates stood by me after the game, and Paolo Cannavaro even offered to cook me dinner because I was so down.

“We have a great team that never gives up, that will give the fans a lot of satisfaction this year.”
