Andrea Stramaccioni reveals his tactical revolution as a new-look Inter beat Catania, but warns not to look at the Serie A table yet.

“Antonio Cassano certainly gave an important contribution, but I think this Inter represents all the players,” he said after the 2-0 result with goals from FantAntonio and Rodrigo Palacio.

“I am happy with the defensive solidity shown by the side, as we worked hard for these results and it shows. We allowed little to Catania, who have some very dangerous forwards and midfielders.”

The Nerazzurri surprised many by starting with Cassano, Palacio and Diego Milito, while Joel Obi was tracking Alejandro Gomez.

“We wanted to send a signal that Inter could win this game playing in a very attacking style, with three strikers and a muscular midfield. We found the balance and have to take new approaches while Wesley Sneijder is out.

“I put Obi on the left to control Gomez, as I noticed he tends to suffer when faced with left-footed players who can stop him more easily as he tries to cut in on his stronger foot.”

Catania were furious after they were denied a clear penalty for Fredy Guarin’s foul on Gomez when it was still 1-0.

“I got very angry, because we allowed Catania to counter-attack far too easily,” said Stramaccioni.

“It was a terrible mistake and could’ve allowed Catania an equaliser, which at the time they did not deserve.”

Inter remain in joint third place with Lazio, but are only a point off Napoli now.

“It is not intelligent to look at the table right now, because we are a new team and still developing. Lazio, Juventus and Napoli have changed very little compared to last season, so we must concentrate only on ourselves and not on the others.”
