Yuto Nagatomo has expressed his relief that Inter won the derby 1-0 after he picked up his first ever red card.

The Japanese international was dismissed early into the second half for two bookable offences after a handball infringement.

“It’s the first red card I've ever received in my professional career,” he stated. “I'm sorry it happened in the derby of all games…

“I was disappointed but what mattered was that we got the win and I have my teammates to thank for getting it.”

On the possibility that his second caution was harsh, the full-back seemed to accept the decision of the match official.

“Obviously I would never have wanted to touch the ball with my arm, but it was an instinctive gesture,” he stated. “I touched it and the referee said it was a handball.”
