Siena Coach Serse Cosmi was furious after their 2-1 defeat to Juventus. “Failing to send off Giorgio Chiellini was decisive.”

The defender risked a second yellow card just 30 minutes into the match, but got away with a warning. It should also be noted the first yellow was very harsh.

“Chiellini should’ve received a second booking. We are so inferior to Juve on a technical level that incidents like that can become decisive,” noted Cosmi.

“The foul was evaluated differently by the referee, but let’s not forget it was Chiellini who put in the assist for Claudio Marchisio’s winner.”

The Siena boss was sent off from the touchline in the first half for dissent, though it was not entirely clear what happened.

“I was sent away because the ball ended up between the feet of an assistant and I urged them to put it back in play quickly. It wasn’t a protest as such. Maybe I strayed outside the technical area.

“In any case, it brought us luck, as we equalised as soon as I left the pitch. It’s just a shame to lose, as we were 1-1 with Juventus just five minutes from time and that was a good result. I remain optimistic, as the team gave a great performance today.

“We proved that we wanted to gamble with our chances today, which is why we started with three strikers.

“We could not man-mark Andrea Pirlo and in the end he was most dangerous only from free kicks, scoring one and hitting the bar.”
