New Cagliari Coaching pair Diego Lopez and Ivo Pulga are presented to the media and declare they want to stay “for at least six years.”

Massimo Ficcadenti parted company with the club last night and Primavera youth team boss Lopez does not have the requisite paperwork to coach in Serie A.

Therefore he has been hired as an assistant manager to Pulga, but it is assumed Lopez is the de facto Coach.

“Pulga and I immediately got in sync, just like the rest of the staff,” said former Cagliari player Lopez.

“We know the environment well and that can be an advantage. At the end of the day, results will make the difference and we hope to get straight back on track with confidence and decision.

“We’ve got to put great spirit of sacrifice and mental strength on to the field. We must never give up and that has to be our guiding principle.

“As for the system, Cagliari’s tactical identity has been imprinted for many years now, so we certainly won’t be revolutionising it.

“I hope to stay here for at least six years, just as I did during my playing career.”

Pulga also spoke at the Press conference, having been a player for Cagliari in their climb from Serie C1 to the top flight.

“I have made a secret dream come true,” said the Coach. “I have always remained in contact with Cagliari and for a few years acted as a talent scout.

“When the President contacted me to see if I wanted to come back, I didn’t hesitate to say yes. We have a great group of players and hope to do well from Sunday.”
