Ciro Ferrara faces a tough decision on Eder as Sampdoria welcome Torino on Sunday defending a 100 per cent record. “Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.”
The Blucerchiati would be joint top of the table without their one-point penalty due to the betting scandal, having beaten Milan, Siena and Pescara.
“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves,” warned Coach Ferrara ahead of the Sunday lunchtime kick-off with Torino. Click here for a match preview.
“Nobody should get any illusions here. Up until we have secured the objective, our job will solely be to ensure safety. Don’t forget we reached Serie A via the play-offs.”
Torino finished joint top of the Serie B table with Pescara last season, but it is Samp who have had a better impact with the top flight.
“I admire Giampiero Ventura very much, as he is a master of the style of football he uses. It’s a 4-2-4 where the wide men work a lot both in defending and attacking.
“I expect to feel the warmth of the Marassi crowd for this match. Eder is in training, but he missed five days and using him would be a risky decision. We’ll have to evaluate his condition.”
There are several ex-Juventus men in the Sampdoria squad, including Enzo Maresca, Marcelo Estigarribia and of course Ferrara.
“It doesn’t feel like a Turin derby. We only have to play like Sampdoria.”
