Guidolin: 'Udinese fighting relegation'

Francesco Guidolin casts aside Udinese’s Europa League commitments and claims tomorrow against Siena it’s “a relegation dogfight.”

The Friulani finished third last season and lost the Champions League play-offs with Sporting Lisbon on penalties, but have started this term with two consecutive defeats.

“Our boat is still moored in the harbour while the others are already on their way,” pointed out the Coach. Click here for a match preview.

“We have now shaken off the Champions League hangover and are preparing for a fascinating and difficult Europa League group.

“However, with Siena it is a relegation dogfight against a strong side that is well-organised. We are on zero points and have to get off the mark. Udinese have to fight for safety, just like Siena.

“I want to see the players ready for this challenge, motivated and settled into this mentality, because this is our reality.”

Pablo Armero is rested in Udine after 20,000km and two games on international duty, joining the injured Emmanuel Badu, Thomas Heurtaux and Luis Muriel.

Goalkeeper Zeljko Brkic is suspended after his red card against Juventus, so Daniele Padelli takes the gloves.
