The investigation into alleged match-fixing in the Genoa derby, which cost Domenico Criscito a place at Euro 2012, has been shelved due to lack of evidence.
The police launched a dawn raid on Italy’s Coverciano training ground in the lead-up to the tournament in order to hand former Genoa defender Criscito an official notice of investigation.
As he was “under pressure” from the media attention and could be needed for interrogation, Criscito was dropped from the Azzurri squad.
However, it was today announced that the investigation into the Genoa 2-1 Sampdoria match on May 8, 2011 has been shelved.
Rodrigo Palacio, Criscito, Omar Milanetto and Dario Dainelli will not face further action.
Eventually, Criscito was interviewed by the authorities only once.
