Giampaolo Pazzini took the ball home after his hat-trick for Milan against Bologna. “It’s a sign for me and those who always believed in me.”
The striker only scored five goals throughout all of last season with Inter, but on his first start for the Rossoneri netted a treble.
“I think this ball will mean a lot to me,” he told Sky Sport Italia while cradling it after the 3-1 win.
“I was coming off some difficult months and now feel great joy. It’s a sign for me and those who always believed in me.
“This was a difficult match and we won, so it couldn’t have gone any better. It is a great emotion to score in my first start after so many months on the bench.”
Milan had lost the opener 1-0 at home to Sampdoria, but with the arrival of Bojan Krkic and Nigel De Jong – who both made their debuts tonight – could they challenge for the Scudetto?
“Victories often wipe out problems. A side like Milan has to target the Scudetto and will try to the very end.
“We wanted to start the campaign with a win and didn’t manage it, but many new players have come in and this result gives us great satisfaction.”
