Vincenzo Montella fired up Fiorentina for tomorrow’s game with “Scudetto contenders” Napoli and, despite the Dimitar Berbatov saga, gives “10 out of 10” for the transfer strategy.

The Viola have been extremely active over the summer, bringing in the likes of Alberto Aquilani, Borja Valero, Mounir El Hamdaoui, Emiliano Viviano, Luca Toni and Cristian Llama.

“Toni will give us a big hand during the season and left some wonderful memories here. I am very happy with the excellent work done by the President and directors on the transfer market.

“We have brought in 18 marvellous players and I am convinced Stevan Jovetic was also happy with the choices made.”

Berbatov had already agreed a transfer to Fiorentina and was travelling for a medical on a flight paid for by the club, but never turned up and in the space of the next few hours proceeded to agree terms with Juventus” data-scaytid=”36″>Juventus and then eventually sign for Fulham.

“The Bulgarian was one of our objectives, but we all know how that ended up…” shrugged Montella in today’s Press conference.

“I had asked for a striker and certainly wasn’t expecting someone who had won the Golden Boot. Berbatov was an objective, like many others.

“I am happy to have Stevan Savic in my squad, as I already knew of him and he has similar characteristics to Matija Nastasic. Giulio Migliaccio brings characteristics we were lacking and Cristian Llama is versatile, as I know from working with him at Catania.”

Expectations have grown around the Tuscans after such a strong transfer campaign, something that Coach Montella acknowledges.

“I am not afraid of making predictions, nor hiding from the spotlight. I cannot say where this team could end up, because I don’t know how quickly we will grow compared to the other teams. Our objective is to create an identity with football that is enjoyable for players and fans alike. It’s a long process, but a targeted one. I give us 10 out of 10 for transfers.”

Fiorentina fought back to win their opening Serie A game 2-1 against Udinese, but travel to Napoli. Click here for a match preview.

“It is going to be a delicate encounter, as we are facing a team of the highest level. I strongly believe Walter Mazzarri’s side are Scudetto contenders.

“We have a few options in defence and I don’t want to give anything away. We could play with three at the back or four. We’ll see.”
