New Fiorentina signing Giulio Migliaccio has sent a heartfelt message to fans of his former club Palermo.

Migliaccio's switch to the Stadio Artemio Franchi on a one-year loan deal was confirmed earlier this afternoon, the combative midfielder moving on after five years spent in Sicily.

“After five long years it seems strange to write 'ex', but football reserves these surprises,” read the letter, which was posted on Palermo’s official website.

“My seasons in Palermo have been intense, fantastic and full of satisfaction. Even the years of suffering helped me to grow professionally and temperamentally.

“My decision was made in May, at the end of last season. It was my choice only, dictated by the need to try a new experience and rediscover the anger and rage that have always characterised my play.

“My desire to change teams was not because of my family – who love Palermo and wanted to continue living there – or for economic reasons.

“I thank President Maurizio Zamparini as he has always treated me like a son, and thank Fabrizio Miccoli – a captain and champion – for our friendship and the joys that made me live.

“A special thanks goes to the people, for the love and affection they have always transmitted to me and for making me feel at home.

“My professional choice does not erase five years of success and fulfilment. Palermo and the Rosanero will always remain in my heart!”

The versatile Migliaccio, who can also play as a centre-back, made 158 appearances for Palermo after arriving from Atalanta” data-scaytid=”18″>Atalanta in 2007.
