Edinson Cavani is near to signing a new contract with a mammoth €50m buyout clause at Napoli, say Sky Sport Italia.

The scorer of 49 Serie A goals in two seasons since his summer 2010 switch to Naples, El Matador is regularly linked with the world's biggest clubs, with Chelsea the name popping up in rumours most often of late.

Now it seems those rumours will be put to bed – for a while at least – with the Uruguayan striker set to sign a new deal at the Stadio San Paolo which could see his wages rise to €4m, making him the best paid player at the club by some distance.

Cavani scored the Vesuviani's third goal in the 3-0 win over his former club Palermo last night.
