Roma presented Paraguayan right-back Ivan Piris to the fans today. “I couldn’t say no. The club is world-famous and has a good chance of winning the Scudetto.”

The former San Paolo star is one of several additions to the Giallorossi after Federico Balzaretti, Mattia Destro and Nico Lopez.

“We were close to a deal with another European side, but Roma’s offer was more tempting and they pushed to have me,” said Piris in his Press conference.

“I couldn’t say no. The club is world-famous and has a good chance of winning the Scudetto, because we have great players.

“Everyone knows Francesco Totti is the most important player in Italy. He’s one of the best that I’ve ever seen in my professional career.

“I feel that I am good in defence, while pace is one of my most important characteristics. In Brazil I learned to attack more than defend, which was different to the way I played in Paraguay.

“In my country we tend to cover up for technical deficiencies with dedication and grit, sweating for the shirt and fighting on every ball. Adding a year spent in Brazil and I think it makes me more of a complete player.

“I take inspiration from Francisco Arce and Javier Zanetti.”
