New Palermo Coach Giuseppe Sannino said he is satisfied with his side’s progress in pre-season following the 1-0 win over Hellas Verona.

“Of all the friendlies we’ve played, this gives us the most encouragement,” said the former Siena boss.

“The players have shown their determination and belief in their ability, as I asked before the game. The road is long and we must work hard to find the right level, but tonight was certainly positive.”

Palermo beat last season’s Serie B play-off semi-finalists courtesy of a first half free-kick from captain Fabrizio Miccoli.

“Now the players want to show the fans at the Barbera. We’re not promising anything, but we want to talk about the games on the pitch that count,” smiled Sannino.

President Maurizio Zamparini was also pleased with the result, saying on twitter: “Tonight I saw a good Palermo. The team is growing and I trust the Coach and my boys.”
