Vladimir Petkovic confirms he is scrapping his 4-4-2 system in order to test new tactics with Lazio. “There’s a lot of work to be done.”

The Biancocelesti have been largely disappointing in pre-season friendlies under their new Coach, so he shelved his career favourite 4-4-2 after defeats to Siena and Torino.

“The two reference points for my Lazio will be the 4-2-3-1 and the 4-3-3,” he said after a 4-0 friendly win over local side Nuova Circe.

“It was a good training session, which is what we wanted. There’s a lot of work to be done, that is true, but I am not worried. In fact, I am fairly content with what we are doing.

“The legs are heavy, but that is normal considering the pre-season fitness training. From now on we will work more on pace and soon the results will start to show.”

Lazio face a far tougher test with Galatasaray on Saturday.

“Miroslav Klose will come with us and I hope he can play for at least 15 minutes.”
