Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis confirms Lorenzo Insigne renewed his contract and “Federico Balzaretti didn’t want to come to Napoli. Roma can have him.”

Palermo left-back Balzaretti looks “very close” to a Roma transfer, as confirmed by Maurizio Zamparini.

“If I am going to sign someone who is nearly 31 years old, then I have to make him play, otherwise it’s a pointless investment,” Napoli patron De Laurentiis told Radio Marte this evening.

“He didn’t want to come to Napoli. I would not have been unhappy to have him, but he would’ve created problems for the balance of the group.

“Roma can have him. After all, Valon Behrami can play wide and maybe cut in towards the centre, while we also have Hugo Campagnaro who can take on different roles.”

Napoli give up on Balzaretti, but are appreciating young striker Insigne on his return from a loan spell at Pescara.

“He has signed a new contract until 2017 and we improved the financial terms, without going over the top. His parents did well to raise a good boy who was also touched by football talent.

“Is Lorenzo like Leo Messi? The other night against Bayer Leverkusen he turned them inside out and they certainly weren’t Serie B or Lega Pro opponents. That was real football.”
