New Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Montella has his eye on former Catania pupil Gonzalo Bergessio.
Ajax’s Mounir El Hamdaoui was in Florence yesterday for a medical, but the Moroccan is not the only striker Montella and Viola sporting director Daniele Prade are looking at.
The club are seeking to remodel a forward department which is looking very bare after the sales of Alberto Gilardino and Santiago Silva last January. Amauri then left last month.
Sky Sport Italia report that Bergessio could be next in line for a move to the Artemio Franchi.
The former St Etienne forward was a favourite of Montella's during their time together at Catania, the young Coach often selecting Bergessio ahead of his more high profile compatriot Maxi Lopez, who signed for Sampdoria last night.
The 27-year-old Argentine is not particularly prolific – the scorer of seven Serie A goals in a year and a half on Catania's books – but is renowned for his work rate and pace.
