Cagliari have officially made Thiago Ribeiro’s move permanent despite reports he’d return to Brazil this summer.

Thiago Ribeiro’s contract was owned by his agent, who loaned him to the Sardinians with an option to buy, so many believed the striker would end his Serie A stay.

“I have nothing against Cagliari, but I told their directors I won’t play there anymore because my head is in Brazil and my daughter,” he told Superesportes on Monday.

“Even if they bought me outright, I would ask for a loan move to South America, as I have to see her grow up. I will return to Brazil, one way or another.”

However, late this evening Cagliari released a statement confirming they have paid the outstanding sum on July 1.

“Therefore all allegations and comments over the player’s contractual position are unfounded.”
