Serie B: Varese appoint Coach

Serie B side Varese have officially appointed new Coach Fabrizio Castori after Rolando Maran took over at Catania.

The club came very close to promotion this season, but they were beaten in the play-offs final by Sampdoria.

Maran left this week in order to take the job at Catania, so has been replaced by Castori.

His most recent job was at Ascoli, where he earned safety and was later fired in December 2011.

Castori sat out a two-year ban, reduced on appeal from three, for his part in a brawl that followed Cesena’s promotion play-off win against Lumezzane in 2004.

However, he stayed on the bench as an ‘assistant’ to Massimo Gadda.
