Cesare Prandelli paid a visit to the Lazio training ground today and was particularly pleased with the form of Stefano Mauri.

The Italy Coach is on a tour of all the Serie A clubs ahead of picking his Euro 2012 squad and today stopped off at Formello.

“It is well known that the Formello training ground is one of the best in Italy. The meeting was pleasant, as Edy Reja is a person with good common sense, a great Coach and above all has great empathy.

“We talked about football, dealing with certain players, programming for national teams and the difficulties sides can run into when playing in cup competitions.”

Of the current Lazio squad, those most likely to be called up for Euro 2012 include Mauri and goalkeeper Federico Marchetti.

“The important thing is to keep all these players under observation. The decisions are made not only on the basis of their qualities, but also the formation of a consolidated group,” noted Prandelli.

“I am pleased that Mauri is back to playing at a high level after his injury. As for others, they are having a very good season.”

There were reports the tactician might have been disillusioned with working for Italy and seeking a return to club management.

“The emotion of leading the Nazionale is always alive, because you represent Italy. Above all when you are abroad and hear the national anthem, you feel that extra responsibility on your shoulders.”
