Palermo’s Emiliano Viviano is the best Italian goalkeeper there is behind Gigi Buffon of Juventus, says Giovanni Galli.

“Emiliano can become a great if that is what he wants,” Galli, a former custodian for Fiorentina” data-scaytid=”10″>Fiorentina and Milan, told Il Giornale di Sicilia.

“It would be a shame if he doesn’t take advantage of the qualities that he has and I often tell him that,” he added.

“He has the misfortune of having a great goalkeeper like Buffon ahead of him in the national side. It happened to me too with Dino Zoff, but I’m certain that Viviano is the best second choice.”

The Rosanero No 1 did replace Buffon under Cesare Prandelli while the Juventino was injured, but Viviano has had his own injury problems to deal with.

Having moved to Inter from Bologna in the summer, he was sidelined for six months after damaging knee ligaments in pre-season.

He joined Palermo at the start of 2012 and he’s attempting to win his place back in the Italy squad for Euro 2012.
