Tuttosport are this morning suggesting that the Italian international is a target at the request of tactician Giampiero Ventura.

The latter bossed Ranocchia with success at Bari in the top flight during a spell in 2009-10 where the 24-year-old caught the eye.

He returned to parent club Genoa at the end of that season and was then sold on to Inter in January 2011.

The Nerazzurri, who previously held a 50 per cent share in his contract, handed over a total of around €18m for the centre-back.

Despite breaking into the Italian side, Ranocchia has had his problems this term with form and injury.

He’s played in just eight Serie A games for the troubled Nerazzurri and a further five in other competitions.

Toro are currently at the top of the Serie B table, four points clear of Sassuolo and Pescara.
