Mazzola: Forlan doesn’t deserve Inter

Inter legend Sandro Mazzola has launched into Diego Forlan for reportedly refusing to play where Claudio Ranieri wanted him to at the weekend.

Coach Ranieri revealed after Inter’s 0-0 draw with Atalanta, which extended the Nerazzurri’s run to two wins from the last 12 played in all competitions, that Forlan had told him he did not want to play on the left of midfield when asked.

Ranieri played down the incident, suggesting that it should be interpreted as an act of honesty from the Uruguayan, but Mazzola, a part of the 1960s’ Grande Inter, suggests that Forlan should have come on regardless.

“How do you explain such a gesture?” the 69-year-old asked on Tuttomercatoweb.com.

“It cannot be explained, send him home. In difficult times, we need certain types of players. Players should go out there and give everything for the shirt, not argue with the Coach.

“If he had wanted to, he could have come on and honoured the shirt, not necessarily follow the Coach’s instruction, but play with his head and in the end only fight with the Coach.”
