The almost 39-year-old has been offered a job by President Maurizio Zamparini to act as a middle-man between the club and the players.

Panucci, winner of 57 caps for his country, is set to arrive in Sicily at some stage on Tuesday before being presented to the media.

Zamparini is busy already planning for the future given that he is expected to flank current sporting director Luca Cattani with Siena’s Giorgio Perinetti next season.

Panucci has been working for Sky Sport Italia as a football pundit since he rescinded his playing contract at Parma in February 2010.
