Eugenio Corini admits being fired, recalled and offered a new contract was “not something I was prepared for,” as Brescia crushed Lecce 3-0.

“I think we did well, even though we were penalised by losing Emanuele Ndoj. We showed the desire to play good football, pass it around well and I feel we could’ve had even more goals,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“It is a positive result and performance that will give us valuable confidence going forward. I thank the fans and urge them to push the team on more and more, because consolidating Serie A is a very difficult task, but if we are united, then we can something that until a couple of weeks ago seemed impossible.

“Now we want to keep going like this to the end of the season.”

Despite being fired and replaced by Fabio Grosso, Corini returned after a month and has now been offered a contract extension.

“It was a surprise, as the new contract was not something I was prepared for. It’s very gratifying for me to be the coach of Brescia, but also a huge responsibility.

“It certainly wasn’t a vacation when I was away. I couldn’t bring myself to watch Brescia games live, as I was still too invested and anxious.”

“I was fired because there was this short-circuit in terms of communication between the President and myself. The team has always reacted well when in difficult circumstances. I accepted that I could be fired if things went wrong, but it was a victory to be recalled.”
